Lament and Trust
More psalms in the Psalter are lament than any other category. The people of God have always brought tears to His feet. “How long, O LORD?” “Why standest thou afar off?” “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” And yet almost every lament psalm makes a turn — sometimes within a verse, sometimes after thirty — to confession of trust. The lament does not deny the pain; it carries the pain into God's presence and refuses to leave without naming who He is. The Psalter teaches the soul this exact movement: tell Him truly, then trust Him stubbornly.
